Aimed at

All organisations require a qualified first aider. This is course is aimed at staff who are the designated first aider in their place of work.

Course description and background information

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.

This qualification provides candidates with the first-aid skills and knowledge to deal with first-aid situations in low-risk work environments such as shops and offices.

Course content

Dealing with accidents and illness - Using a First Aid kit Simple record keeping - Resuscitation Treatment of an unconscious casualty - Choking Treatment of a heart attack - Control of bleeding Burns and scalds - Poisoning - Fractures - Shock 

Assessment

Multiple-choice question paper and practical skills test.
